International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) has acknowledged the services of Athletics Association of Maldives' former President Maizan Ali Manik.

During IAAF's congress held in London last Tuesday, Ali Manik was honoured with the Veteran Pin Award which is awarded to individuals who long serve in the athletics field. This marks the first time that a Maldivian is recognized internationally for services in Athletics.

Maizan Ali Maink is the first person to have announced a long term plan to achieve an international award for the country and his services are widely considered the greatest among all.

During his term as the president of the Maldives Athletics Association, the Maldives won the first ever international medal in Athletics in the South Asian Junior Championship.

The Maldives' Sprint Relay team also won a bronze medal under his guidance in 2010.
