The Maldives has forward charges to the Criminal Court against one of the individuals arrested for attempting to detonate a bomb in capital Male last April.

Three people were arrested in a raid of Machangolhi ward of capital Male for preparing Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and are accused of terrorism and endangering national security. Police had inspected the houses Kinara, Walnut and Namoonaage, and the office of Attic International Pvt Ltd located in Enboo house during the raid.

Out of the suspects, the state is pressing charges against Nasiu Mohamed of Haa Alif atoll Hoarafushi island.

The state had appealed Nasiu’s shift to house arrest at the High Court earlier, but the court had stated that as his case has now been sent to the Criminal Court, the decision on his arrest will be made by the court in question.

It is unclear whether the cases of the other two suspects have been forwarded to trial or not.

In a previous case, four people had been arrested over planting an IED near the presidential palace in November 2015. All four suspects have been proven guilty with three of them facing 17 years in jail while the fourth is looking at 20 years of imprisonment.
