The main activity hub of opposition Jumhoory Party is under Police guard following a raid that took place late Tuesday.

Police spokesperson confirmed that Kunooz in Maafannu ward of capital Male, which is now the main hub used for rallies by the opposition coalition, is still under guard but did not provide further details.

The Criminal Court issued a court order on Tuesday for Police to raid and search Jumhoory Party’s hub for a period of three days. Police launched the first raid on Tuesday night which lasted around five hours. However, after the search ended, Police said in a statement that they were unable to find anything in connection to the case under investigation.

The warrant signed by Judge Adam Arif accused the opposition parties of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhoory Party, Adhaalath Party and unnamed others of conspiring to impede and overthrow the government. The court order also highlighted that the opposition coalition is working to obstruct the official functions of Parliament.

The items listed on the warrant include documents, banners and surveillance footage that defame the government. However, Police have stated that they had not found any such items in Kunooz yet.
