Maldives Media Council (MMC) on Sunday stated that any actions to obstruct journalism will not be recognised and accepted.
MMC's statement comes at a time when Maldives Broadcasting Commission has released an order warning action against any media that broadcast unlawful protests and rallies, and some cases of Police obstructing journalists during events coverage.
The statement released by MMC noted that it has come to their knowledge that several media outlets are being treated unfairly while some journalists are facing several obstructions.
Hence the commission called to provide a healthy environment for the media and journalists to work as they hold the main responsibility of providing information to the public regarding current events.
