The opposition on Thursday submitted a motion of no confidence against Attorney General Mohamed Anil at the parliament.

Following the constitutional case AG Anil filed last week at the Supreme Court seeking to oust lawmakers that resign or are expelled from the political parties they were registered to at the time of election or if they shift parties, the opposition submitted the motion with the signatures of 24 lawmakers.

Parliament regulations state that should a motion of no confidence be filed against a minister, the minister in question must be officially notified 14 days before the debate. The minister is accorded the right to defend their position both verbally and in writing.

A motion of no confidence against a minister can be passed with total 43 votes in favour.
