Maldives Police Service raided the residence of Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon early Tuesday.

The reason for the raid is yet unclear. However, Police have cordoned off the area of Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s lawmaker son in Maafannu ward of capital Male.

He has been accused of bribing lawmakers in relation to the motion of no confidence sought against Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh by the opposition. Police have also stated that they have sufficient evidence against Faris.

However, Faris has denied the claims and stated that there are no evidence of such actions.

The court order issued to raid Faris’s residence states to search his laptops, check books, all documents related to the motion of no confidence, his storage devices and all other items that could relate to the issue.

The court order also mentions that the authorities have gathered confidential intelligence information, testimony of a witness, some text messages and an audio script of a related video as evidence against Faris.
