Amendment to Legal Profession Act ratified to exclude Attorney General from Bar Council ExCo

According to the bill drafted by the Attorney General's Office and submitted to Parliament by MP Hussain Shareef on behalf of the government, the Bar Council's Executive Committee will now consist of the Council's President, Vice President, and seven members.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today ratified an amendment to the Legal Profession Act to exclude the Attorney General from the Executive Committee of the Bar Council.

The Bar Council's Executive Committee currently has nine members which include the Attorney General, the Council's President and Vice President elected from among lawyers, and six additional members.
