The motorcycle of a judge was set on fire at dawn Thursday in the island of Kanduhulhudhoo in Gaafu Alif atoll.

Judge Hassan Didi was praying at the mosque when his motorbike was soaked in petrol and set ablaze. The motorbike has been damaged beyond use while another adjacent motorcycle, which belongs to a teacher, was also heavily damaged.

Hassan Didi stated that he had previously received threats pertaining to the torching and that he knows the identities of the culprits. The judge has since filed the case at the police.

According to Judge Hassan Didi, it was an act of revenge by two youths of the island whom he had warned against reckless driving.

“My house is in a narrow alley and it’s very dusty. They speed on their motorcycles [down the alley] which causes the dust to enter my home. It was a great disturbance and I advised them not to do it. They got angry over it,’ he explained.
