President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated last night that bilateral ties between India and Maldives will be maintained in future in a way that benefits the country.

In an interview given to State media PSM while in New Delhi, the President said that attending the oath taking ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his third consecutive term is a great honour for the Maldives.

He expressed his pleasure at having been invited to join the ceremony.

"God willing, through the strong ties and friendly bonds between our countries, we will bring about good things for the Maldives, bring positive outcomes to the people," the President said.

India's Minister of External Affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has also stated earlier today that fruitful deliberations have been held with President Muizzu during this trip.

President Muizzu has returned to the Maldives this morning.
