The family of murdered blogger and social media activist, Yameen Rasheed, on Tuesday called on the authorities to disclose information regarding their investigation into his death.
In a press release, the family stated that Maldives Police Service’s last update on their investigation was on May 9 and that Police have not shared any other information on Yameen’s murder since.
The family claimed that they have attempted to seek information on various occasions. They expressed concern over lack of response from authorities to their phone calls and messages.
The statement described the past 37 days since Yameen Rasheed was killed as full of pain and despair for the family, in which every day was spent with the hope of finally learning the identities of the murderers and instigators.
His family further declared that his murder was planned out and called out on state institutions for failing their responsibility to provide security and protection to citizens.
Yameen Rasheed, 29, of Addu atoll Feydhoo island was found murdered with multiple stab wounds in the stairway of the building where he lived in capital Male. Police have since announced that they have arrested seven suspects in connection with his murder, declaring that despite withholding the details of the probe, their investigation is making headway.
