Maldives Police Service has summoned social media activist Muzarraf "Muju" Mohamed Naeem to present himself to Police Headquarters within two weeks.
Police did not disclose the reason for the summons but stated that they are searching for Muzarrif in relation to a case currently being investigated against him.
Police added that they are unable to bring him to the investigation as he is abroad.
In a statement, they urged Muzarrif to present himself at the headquarters and to produce a defence for the case being investigated against him. Police added that if not, the case will be forwarded to Prosecutor General's Office to be charged in his absence.
Muzarrif Naeem had notoriously announced that he is an atheist on social media.
Police had also previously summoned former Judicial Service Commission’s member Aishath Velezinee for posting blasphemy regarding the religion of Islam.
