President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that over two hundred bills need to be passed to fulfil the pledges made to the people, saying that for this reason, it is imperative to get the majority in parliament.

In a gathering held near the Hiyaa Flats in Hulhumale' Phase 2 last night, the President said that in order to produce ideal results through this administration, it is crucial to win the upcoming parliamentary elections.

President Dr Muizzu reiterated the major role the parliament plays in facilitating efforts to fulfill pledges made to citizens. He explained how while over 200 bills needed to be passed for these endeavours, it would prove impossible to do so without having the support from within the parliament.

"Among the most important, there is a new bill on land, a new bill on housing, a new bill on real estate, bills made to shape things as they are in developed, densely populated cities around the world. These things cannot be achieved unless we opt for people who will facilitate these efforts," the President said.

He further said that votes need to be cast for ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)/ People's National Congress (PNC) candidates to make sure things in parliament do not continue in the same vein as it has in the past four months.

He once against declared that he and his government receives zero support from the existing opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) led parliament.

President Dr Muizzu went on to say that in recent times, Maldives had been caught up in a negative political cycle where retribution and political persecution had become the norm. He affirmed that these are not actions that he would ever endorse, reminding that it is among his pledges to rid the country of the spirit of political revenge. He assured that he would forever work with sincerity and assuredness in serving the nation and establishing peace and harmony.

"I can do that once we get the people's trust and cooperation in the parliamentary election as well," President Dr Muiizu said.
