International Aid Campaign (IAC) has offered to bear all the costs involved in relocating out of Gaza the family of Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) Professor Dr Hassan Al Kordi.

Dr Hassan told Mihaaru that IAC has informed him that they will work to bring his family out of Rafah, Gaza at the earliest and bring them to Egypt.

They initially offered to help relocate the family in a meeting held last month. They then attempted to facilitate this through creating a GoFundMe account on the fund raising platform. After this, on Sunday, the organization had informed Hassan that they would bear all the costs of relocation.

To relocate Dr Hassan's wife and two sons and two daughters between the ages of 13 and 20, USD 10,000 needs to be paid per person, making the total payment an amount of USD 50,000. The Professor is helpless financially to do something of this scale after even his home was destroyed in Israeli attacks.

Running out of options, and out of fear for the safety of his family, Dr Hassan appealed to the public for help.

An IAC post stated that they had extended food aid as well to the family on March 18. They further said that a family of seven connected to a Maldivian have also been relocated to Egypt.

Dr Hassan has worked in the Maldives for eight years now. His family also came to stay with him here in 2018. However, near the end of 2019, the borders closed just after they had travelled to Gaza, effectively disallowing their travel back to the Maldives. Since then, the elder two of his four children began tertiary education, making the parents decide to delay the move to Maldives until they completed their education.

Hassan, currently in Egypt, asserted that he is doing all he possibly can to facilitate moving his family out of Gaza at the earliest. He said that once that is achieved, he hopes to arrange visas and live in the Maldives with his family.

"I am trying to bring them all here somehow. Even if the attacks stop, there is nowhere left for them to go. Our home has been destroyed in the attacks. If this war goes on, and if they are unable to leave Gaza, I do not know if I will see them again. They might die through a bombing, or even through famine."
