The President's Office on Sunday submitted a motion at the Maldives Media Council (MMC) against six journalists of local television channel Raajje TV over defaming First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.

The separate cases filed by the President's Office are against News Director Ali Yoosuf, Senior Journalist Mohamed Fazeen, Senior Video Journalist Mohamed Visaam, Senior Journalist Azmoon Ahmed and Assistant News Director Abdulla Naseer.

The cases were filed over some reports published on Rajje TV's website raajje.mv.

MMC has given a 7-day period for Raajje TV to respond to the submitted issue.

Previously, Maldives Broadcasting Commission fined Raajje TV with a hefty amount over defamatory content against the president. However, Raajje TV succeeded in paying off the penalty.
