Male' City Council has implemented a ban on vehicular movement within Malé City during the evening of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The decision was reached during a council meeting held today, following discussions regarding a proposal from the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage. The ministry had suggested restricting vehicular access to allow pedestrians to partake in various Eid celebrations.
Councilor Ahmed Zameer introduced a motion during today's session, proposing a ban on vehicle movement in Malé City from 16:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs on Eid. This proposal received support from North Galolhu Councilor Saif Fatih.
However, despite attendance from 11 members, the proposal failed to secure a majority vote.
Subsequently, a revised proposal was put forward to restrict vehicular movement from 16:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs as per the ministry's request. This measure was approved through seven votes.
