President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will be travelling tonight to the island of Maafaru in Noonu Atoll to attend the inauguration ceremony of the commencement of using the military drones bought from Turkey in surveillance of the Maldives' Exclusive Economic Zone.
The ceremony will be held tonight at the Maafaru International Airport.
MNDF will be establishing a dedicated base for drone operations at this airport.
Although there has been no official word yet from the government, social media footage of the drones indicate that the drones are of the model Bayraktar TB2 drones from Turkey.
The Bayraktar TB2 is a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned combat aerial craft capable of remote controlled or autonomous flight operations.
The drones have undergone test flights in Maafaru earlier in the week.
