Police have arrested four more suspects over the brutal murder of social media activist and blogger Yameen Rasheed.
With this arrest late Sunday, Police have arrested total six suspects in connection with Yameen’s murder.
Yameen Rasheed, 29, of Addu atoll Feydhoo island was found dead with multiple stab wounds by the staircase of his house in capital Male in the early hours of April 23. Police have also released CCTV footage of two men, suspected to be the culprits, entering the building where Yameen lived prior to his death.
Despite harsh criticism from the public over lack of results in the murder probe, Police have declared that they are making progress in the investigation. They added that samples have also been sent abroad to forensic laboratories for further investigations and that they are seeking the expertise of foreign veterans.
Yameen Rasheed had received numerous death threats prior to his murder, which he had filed with the police. While Police have stated that some suspects had been questioned over the threats, Yameen’s family proclaim that Police had neglected the cases and did not provide protection for Yameen.
Meanwhile, several local and international entities have called upon the Maldivian authorities to conduct an independent probe into the murder and apprehend the culprits.
