Police have arrested two individuals in relation to yesterday's attack on Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem.
Police have arrested two individuals last night in connection to the attack on Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem yesterday morning.
Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau said at the ongoing press conference that the attack on the PG was premeditated and well planned in a manner to conceal the identities of those involved.
He stated, however, that police have now identified the assailants.
The Commissioner declined from providing further information as the investigation is currently in its first phase.
In light of similar attacks in the past, police said that it is likely that there are additional individuals involved behind the attack besides the two assailants.
The Commissioner asserted that the police services will not allow space for such attacks to be committed in the country, and that the case is being investigated as a high priority matter.
Shameem was attacked in front of his home near Noor Mosque while he was returning home after dropping his child off at school.
The assailants were two individuals riding on a motorcycle, concealing their faces by wearing helmets.
The attackers attempted to hit Shameem on the head with a hammer, however Shameem managed to take defensive action, resulting in him sustaining injuries to his left forearm instead.
He was released from ADK Hospital yesterday after receiving treatment for his injuries, including fractured bones.
After his release, he returned home and made a post on social media to reassure those concerned.
“I was attacked this morning .. fractured my left hand .. I am now back home with family … will be back at work stronger and be back running, cycling and swimming even faster,” Shameem said on Facebook.
