High Court scheduled the appeal of the six-month sentence of jailed opposition lawmaker of Galolhu South constituency, Ahmed Mahloof, to commence May 15.
Mahloof has already completed his 6 months’ jails sentence which was issued over obstructing a law enforcement officer, and he is currently serving a jail sentence of 4 months and 24 days which will be over in upcoming June.
While both cases were appealed at the High Court, the trials were never commenced.
The spokesperson for the newly formed Maldives United Opposition (MOU), Mahloof was first sentenced to four months and 24 days in prison after the Criminal Court found him guilty of obstructing police officers during an opposition protest.
A week later he received a further six months for pushing police barricades and entering a restricted area during a protest in March last year.
