Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has filed lawsuits against 13 companies for unpaid settlements over leased islands for resort development within the last month.

These lawsuits include islands leased to companies of Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim, ownership companies of top politician Abdulla Jabir, AAA Company, Former Minister Hussain Hilmy’s shareholding company as well as a shareholding company of Athama Ibrahim Didi.

Meanwhile, MIRA has released a press statement urging media not to spread false information without proper verification. This was due to media reports of the lawsuits filed against Qasim's Villa Companies, J.H resorts and Jabir's Yacht Tours.

MIRA assured that they have been following their enforcement policy and that it is a constitutional right of the institution to find the funds owed to the state.

Adding that all information regarding the ongoing trials will be updated on the website, MIRA highlighted that they have already won 214 cases at Court.
