The Parliament has voted on Monday in favour of approving Hassan Zakariyya as a member of the Elections Commission.
The Parliament has voted on Monday in favour of approving Hassan Zakariyya as a member of the Elections Commission (EC).
Zakariyya was previously filling the position of Secretary General at the commission for a period of three years.
The appointment of Zakariyya was passed through the unanimous voted of the 39 members who voted.
An EC member serves a term of five years. Currently, the commission consists of EC President Fuad Thaufeeq, Vice President Ali Nashaath, Dr Mohamed Zahir and Mohamed Asif.
A member's position at the commission became vacant upon the retirement of former EC VP Ismail Habeeb upon having served two terms as member.
Habeeb left the EC after having served it in different capacities for over two decades.
