Police arrest duo, seize 1.1 kg of drugs in bust

Police announced Tuesday that they have arrested two people and seized over 1.1 kilograms of drugs after raids on two houses in capital Male.

According to the deputy head of Maldives Police Services’s Drug Enforcement Department, Aminath Suzy, the drugs seized during the operation carried out on April 25 are estimated to have a market value of total MVR 1.6 million.

Police found items used to package drugs, two digital syringes and 17 empty film canisters dusted in substances suspected to be drugs in the first house, while 1.1 kg of cannabis and 91 grams of other intoxicants were found in the second house.

The people arrested are a 25 year old man and 29 year old woman who have been remanded for ten days.

Police did not disclose further details of the case as the investigation is ongoing.
