Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed stated on Wednesday that it is a goal of the current administration to provide housing within the next five years for everyone who lives in the Malé area.
In a ceremony held to showcase model apartments in the "Amaan Dhoadhi" project by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation, Haidar said this project will help alleviate the housing crisis for Malé residents.
The Minister said that while 4,000 people will receive apartments, additional housing projects will be conducted under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s housing pledges.
"Our goal is that by the time our five years are up, there is no family or household in the Malé area that has not received housing. We will be working towards that goal," Haidar said.
He added that, in addition to Hulhumalé and Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru will also be used for housing projects soon. He further stated that Fushidhiggarufalhu will be developed to provide housing for the next 20 years as well.
Fushidhiggarufalhu is President Muizzu's most ambitious housing project. Although the current administration proposed to include this project in next year's budget, it was removed at the committee stage by Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) members, who are part of the committee.
Minister Haidar said developing Fushidhiggarufalhu to provide housing is a pledge made by the president, and this project will guarantee housing for the citizens' children and their children as well.
