The Japanese government donated medical equipment worth MVR 9.3 million to the Maldives on Monday.
The aid was presented to the Maldives on behalf of the Japanese government by the Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Kazumi Endo.
The donations include mobile X-Ray systems, mobile ventilators and dental equipment.
Speaking at the handover ceremony held at the Ministry of Health, Minister Abdulla Nazim stated that the donated equipment and aid will be used in hospitals and health centres of the atolls. Declaring that the aid will enhance the services of these under-resourced health centres, he said that transportation of the equipment across the archipelago is currently underway.
Japan is a close ally of the Maldives that has aided the island nation in numerous ways in the past. The Japanese government had donated medical equipment worth MVR 7.7 million in 2012 and plans to provide more equipment towards the end of this year as well.
