Govt seeks Permanent Secretaries for newly established ministries

Civil Service Commission (CSC) has announced that they are seeking Permanent Secretaries (PS) for the newly established ministries under the new government led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

CSC's announcement sought interested individuals to apply for PS positions in the newly created Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, and Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works before November 30, 2023.

The new government is comprised of 22 ministries, out of which four were newly created by separating mandates from previous government bodies to form them.

Eligibility criteria for the position includes an academic qualification no lower than MNQF Level 7 with a minimum of six years experience in managing a public or private office. Persons with an academic qualification no lower than MNQF Level 9 and a minimum of four years experience in managing a public or an international organization may also apply for the post.

Since 2016, the Permanent Secretary; the top authority figure leading civil servants in ministries, have been appointed under the direct supervision or advice of the relevant ministers.

Previously, the discretion of appointing permanent secretaries to the ministries rested on CSC exclusively.

The basic salary of a permanent secretary is MVR 20,500 with an additional living allowance of MVR 15,000 bringing their total take home pay to MVR 35,500.
