Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed on Friday evening, November 17 announced the decision to change operations of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Thinadhoo Islamic Center to be under Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).
This is the first official decision of the newly appointed Islamic Minister under the new administration led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who was sworn in on Friday afternoon.
Dr. Shaheem announced the Islamic Center in Thinadhoo will be handed over to IUM on Tuesday, coming week.
He added that the move would allow students aspiring to seek tertiary education related to Islam to do so without migrating to Male' City for the purpose.
"It will become the center to learn Islamic history and culture," Dr. Shaheem said.
The Islamic Center in Thinadhoo was established under former President Abdulla Yameen's administration.
A special handover ceremony is expected.
