The Elections Commission (EC) on Thursday publicised the final registration list of eligible voters for the upcoming Local Council Elections to be held May 6.
The commission said that the list will be available on its website and can also be checked via SMS.
According to EC, 255,987 people are eligible to vote in the elections.
Meanwhile, opposition Jumhoory Party (JP) and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have declined to sign the voters list, claiming that it is invalid.
However, EC declared that their list is valid as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court and that the election will take place with or without the signatures of the candidates, their representatives and political parties.
The local election was delayed thrice this year. A total of 1,497 candidates are running for this year’s election.
The commission will set up 422 ballot boxes for the election.
