A suspect apprehended by the police attempted to flee custody by jumping into the sea during his transfer to Atholhu Vehi.
The man ran off upon being disembarked from the police vehicle, ran across the street, jumped into the sea and attempted to swim away into the deep oceans.
He had not managed to swim far from the sea wall when police arrived in two speedboats and recaptured him.
Three police officers dived into the ocean in their efforts to retrieve the suspect.
The police have not yet clarified what charges have been brought against him, or what case he was apprehended in relation to.
