Police on Saturday arrested a local and expatriate with over 1.3 kilograms of heroin in capital Male during a drug bust.
Speaking at a press conference held Sunday, the Head of Drug Enforcement Department and Superintendent of Police Moosa Ali stated that the 43 year old Maldivian and 26 year old foreigner were apprehended on the road on a motorcycle while carrying a bag with 100 packets of heroin.
Police estimate that the street price of the drugs amount to MVR 6 million.
Superintendent Moosa further disclosed that Police found 26 additional bags of suspected drugs in the arrested local’s house, along with empty rubber bags, bag seal machines, masking tape and other items.
He said that, based on the evidence, the duo are believed to be large-scale drug dealers though neither have any criminal records.
