Jumhoory Party's lawmaker, Kendhoo MP Ali Hussain, stated that it is concerning that lawyers are remaining silent while the Constitution is being shattered.

Speaking at the opposition rally held JP's main hub late Tuesday, Ali Hussain questioned lawyers for whom they are waiting to save the nation. He added that it is the most important time to speak out.

“There are over 900 lawyers working in and out of the government but we don’t see them speaking out,” said Lawyer Ali Hussain.

Urging lawyers to help save the nation before it loses independence and sovereignty, Ali Hussain said that wealth is given by the most merciful Allah and that nobody else has the power to overturn it. He called upon Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to recall the sacrifices made by the forefathers.

Speaking at the rally, council member of religiously conservative Adhaalath Party, Shidhatha Shareef, proclaimed that day by day the government is growing weaker which is proven by the actions of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

She added that the current parliament is witnessing its frailest days and urged lawmakers not to be influenced by the president.
