Suspect in Judge assassination plot remanded for 10 days

High Court has remanded Ministry of Education's Senior Policy Executive Ibrahim Haneef for 10 days over allegedly orchestrating an assassination attempt on Judge Shujau Usman of the High Court.

Haneef is accused of plotting the assassination and sending a group to assassinate Judge Sujau. The court has granted Police permission to investigate the case by keeping Haneef in custody.

Police spokesperson confirmed that the police are looking into an attempted assault on Judge Shujau but provided no further details.

Mihaaru’s sources say that Judge Shujau, who works in the southern branch of the High Court in Addu atoll Meedhoo island, was recently brought to capital Male in connection with the plot to assassinate him.

Mihaaru understands that the issue surfaced due to a leaked audio recording of the culprits discussing the planned assassination.
