Saaid secures silver at Indian Grand Prix 4

Following a third-place win at his competed runs at the Indian Grand Prix 3, Maldives' professional sprinter Hassan Saaid has secured another win in the follow-up Indian Grand Prix 4.

Saaid won a silver medal in the 100-metre sprint, which is his ‘official’ event. With this win, the professional athlete has secured a total of seven medals from all four Indian Grand Prix tournaments.

Earlier, the sprinter secured gold medal wins from both the 100 and 200-metre events at the Indian Grand Prix 1, and secured a bronze medal from the 100-metre run with another silver medal from the 200-metre event in the Grand Prix 2. Saaid continued his streak once more in last week’s Indian Grand Prix 3 with two bronze medal wins.

The final of the Indian Grand Prix was held in Bangalore on Saturday, April 15. Winners from the 100-metre event were chosen out of the top finishers from all three heats.

Saaid, who competed in the second heat of the 100-metre event, finished the race in 10.66 seconds, landing him the second spot. The event’s first place was secured by Assam’s Alman Bogohan, who ran in the first heat in under 10.53 seconds, while Karnataka’s Aryna Manoj secured third place with 10.90 seconds.

Hassan Zeek Saud from the Maldives national athletics team competed in the 400-metre event and completed the run in 52.62 seconds, whereas Hussain Fazeel Haroon, who competed in the 1,500-marathon, finished his respective race in four minutes and 6.71 seconds.

Aishath Shaba Saleem, who competed in the women’s 200-metre race, completed her event in 27.70 seconds, while Ziva Moosa Shafeeu, who competed in the 400-metre event, finished her race in one minute and 39.9 seconds.

The Maldivian athletes who took part in the Indian Grand Prix tournaments earlier received full-time training scholarships from the Indian High Commission to prepare for the upcoming Indian Ocean Island Games.

As for medals secured by local sprinters so far in 2023, Aminath Jaaisha Juneez secured a bronze medal from the 800 metres event in the Indian Grand Prix 1, while Ziva Moosa Shafeeu secured a bronze medal in the 200 metres event in the Indian Grand Prix 3.
