Indian actor, supermodel, and fitness enthusiast Milind Soman has taken part in the Maldives Half Marathon '23, held in Hulhumalé on Saturday, as the race ambassador of the event.
The race was organised by the Housing Development Corporation, irunners Maldives, Move Maldives, and the Indian High Commission.
A large number of people participated in the marathon, which began at dawn. According to the HDC, the aim of this year's event was to raise awareness about protecting the Maldives' ecosystem, with a special focus on the coral reefs.
The marathon included a half marathon category, 15-kilometer, 10-kilometer, and 5-kilometer races, a 5-kilometer wheelchair race, inline skating, and a kids mile. Twenty people had participated in the wheelchair race.
The Diabetes Association offered free health screenings to participants, and there was also a special panel discussion on healthy lifestyles and environment protection was also planned as part of the event.
Milind, who is an avid runner, has previously participated in a similar marathon held in Hulhumalé in February 2019, organised by irunners Maldives and Object Maldives. He is also a swimmer, having won the Indian national swimming championship for four consecutive years beginning in 1984. He represented India in swimming at the inaugural South Asian Games in 1984, where he won a silver medal.
Milind gained notoriety after starring in the 1995 video for Alisha Chinai's famous song "Made in India."
