The Maldives has halted visits to inmates serving prison sentences due to the current swine flu epidemic spreading across the archipelago.
In a notice, Maldives Correctional Service stated that all family visits and private visits to inmates are cancelled until further notice to curb the spread of H1N1 virus.
According to Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s latest statistics, total 105 people have tested positive for swine flu.
Meanwhile, the government has closed all schools and universities, and suspended school sports activities and the national football tournament due to the epidemic. The Civil Service Commission has also relieved pregnant civil servants of their duties to prevent flu transmission. Meanwhile, the main hospitals in capital Male have established flu clinics for easy consultations and tests, with influenza vaccinations provided for pregnant women and infected patients.
