The Maldives government is seeking contractors for the project to connect capital Male, airport island Hulhule and reclaimed suburb Hulhumale with an electrical grid via the bridge currently being developed between Male and Hulhule.

According to a notice released by the Ministry of Finance and Treasury on Monday, interested parties are to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) by April 3.

The notice added that submitters must prove their financial capability to undertake the project, which is to be conducted under the contractor finance policy. Other requirements include experience in establishing high voltage electric networks and submission of a proposed summary on plans to carry out the project.

The government plans to establish the powerhouse that powers the Male-Hulhule-Hulhumale electrical grid in Hulhumale. The work commenced at the end of last year.

Meanwhile, the state has repeatedly proclaimed that the ongoing development of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge is proceeding ahead of schedule. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2018.
