President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Monday inaugurated a special national campaign to promote Islamic spirit and patriotism in the name of "Tharika" (heritage).
The president also launched the logo and theme song of the campaign during the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge convention centre.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister of Home Affairs Azleen Ahmed emphasized the importance of strengthening patriotism.
“If this is neglected, the status given for our religion without a doubt will fall,” said Azleen.
Noting that all Maldivians follow one religion, the minister urged the people to love their nation as they love their owns selves.
The Minister of Defense and National Security Adam Shareef also gave a speech during the ceremony while Chancellor of Islamic University Dr Mohamed Shaheem gave a presentation on Islamic Civilization.
