Government coalition partner Maldives Development Alliance (MDA)’s leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has condemned the opposition's defamation of Saudi Arabia as a "terrorist producing hub", calling it a low and irreligious act.

Speaking at the introduction ceremony of  MDA’s candidates for the upcoming Local Council Elections late Sunday, Siyam countered the interview given by Former President Mohamed Nasheed against Saudi Arabia, and stated that such talks only enable the slavery of the nation.

Describing Saudi Arabia as the ‘mother of Islamic Nations’, Siyam added that the kingdom is one country which spends the most to eliminate terrorism in the world.

“We are not surprised by the comments thrown by the opposition towards the Saudi Kingdom; the only reason for it is none other than the anti-Islamic values within them [opposition],” said Siyam.

He added that a thought must be given as to why the opposition had also called to free Iraq whilst the Maldives is a 100 percent Muslim nation.

He further praised President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in being able to bring the Saudi King to the Maldives with a USD 10 billion project.

“President Yameen is a world class economist, this is not a joke, but the truth.”

He further said that with the completion of President Yameen’s first tenure the Maldives will witness much wealth, asserting that the current president must be chosen for his second term to maintain the development.
