Former Assistant Attorney General Ismail Wisham becomes the new president of Bar Council of the Maldives.

Wisham has been appointed as the president of the council's second term.

The decision was vocalized and officially confirmed during the most recent bar council elections ahead of the executive committee due.

Wisham faced opposition from sitting executive committee member Mohamed Faisal, a renowned attorney in the Maldivian judicial scene.

Apart from the new president's position, the committee elected its new Deputy President as well.

Mizna Ahmed, who has over 15 years of years experience in private legal practice in addition to practicing as in-house counsel for a number of corporations and entities secured the position of Deputy President through a popular vote.

Additionally a total of six individuals had contended for the remaining five positions of the executive committee. Though six contended, only three members received favorable nods which include sitting members Ahmed Muiz, a former Prosecutor General; Ibrahim Shameel and Sadhih Naseer.
