Tourist arrivals to Maldives observe over 116% increment annually as of September 2021

According to a recent statistical update from the Ministry of Tourism, the tourist arrivals to the Maldives observed an increase of 116.7% as of September’s end.

Moreover, as per the statistics the total arrival figure by the end of the review month reached 870,862 which is already significantly excessive when compared with the total arrival figure in 2020, which reached only 555,494.

In terms of month to month arrival numbers, the arrival count observed an improvement of 1,096.2% in September 2021 when compared with the same month in 2020. At the end of the review month in 2021 the arrival total reached 114,896 whereas the arrival total in September 2020 reached only 9,605.

However, the arrival count exclusive for September 2021 is still a 2.3% decrease when compared with the arrival count in September 2019, where the figure stood at 117,619.

Meanwhile, regional trends to the Maldives tourism industry observe a significant bump from the Americas. So far, the arrival count from this region is 55,730 which is a staggering 467.6% improvement from the same period in 2020, where the arrival count stood at just 32,060.

The second strongest in terms of regional arrivals is Africa, with a total arrival of 20,360 so far in 2021 which is a 451.9% increment when compared with the corresponding month in 2020 where the arrival total stood at just 6,458.

Furthermore, in terms of arrivals from the top source markets India ranks in top position with an arrival total of 200,449 so far in 2021 which is 23.0% of the total arrivals to the Maldives. In addition to this, the source market observed a growth of 467.6% over the same period in 2020.

Russia maintains second spot with a total arrival of 171,308 so far, which is a growth of 444.0% over the same period in 2020 while the country shared 19.7% of the total arrivals to the country.

Germany is ranked at third spot with a total arrival of 53,460 so far, marking a growth of 84.1% and a share of 6.1% of the total arrivals while USA reflects an arrival total of 35,324 which is a growth of 167.4% and a share of 4.1% of total arrivals.

In addition to this, Saudi Arabia is ranked fifth in the top source markets for Maldives with an arrival total of 30,339 so far, observing a growth of 308.4% and a share of 3.5% of the total arrivals.
