High Court orders to arrest a recently released man accused of sexually abusing his four year old daughter.
He was previously arrested from Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll in early August. The island court ordered for his release, but later ordered to be detained until the verdict. However when brought to court to review his arrest a judge decided to release the suspect.
When the state appealed the order in the High Court, they stated that the lower court released the suspect while they had enough evidence to keep him detained. The High Court said as this had not changed there's no reason to release him. Citing the reasons provided, they said not reviewing his detention duration was not an acceptable reason
After reviewing this case, the High Court decided to keep the initial order by the lower court to keep the man detained until his trial was over.
The name of the island and the perpetuator is withheld in order to safeguard the identity of the child.
