Maldives sells 20 flats to state hospital doctors, nurses

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has sold 20 flats for some specialist doctors and senior nurses working in state run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

According to a senior official of the hospital, the staff were given 10 flats from the apartments developed in capital Male by India's Tata Housing Development Company, and 10 flats from reclaimed suburb Hulhumale. Hence 10 doctors and 10 nurses have now been awarded their respective flats.

“The flats were awarded to two medical officers, eight specialist doctors and ten nurses, including staff who have worked in IGMH for a long period of time.”

Official further stated that HDC has given the documentation regarding the flats hence will be soon signing contract with the flat successors.

Some of the doctors who received the flats include the Cardiologist Dr Ali Shafeeq, Pulmonologist Dr Moosa Hussain, Nephrologist Dr Ibrahim Shiham and Internal Medicine Physician Dr Ali Latheef.

The down payment for flats in Male is MVR 400,000 while in Hulhumale the amount is MVR 19,000. The rent of flats in Male costs MVR 17,800 per month for 20 years whereas Hulhumale costs MVR 7,350 for 25 years.

The criteria for awarding flats includes 70 points for quality of service and importance while 20 points were given for the need of shelter and 10 points for financial stability.
