Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) filed a lawsuit to terminate the agreement made with Meridiam Services Company Pvt Ltd to purchase oil.

MPL had previously terminated the agreement, following which the case was then filed at the Civil Court by Meridiam. The lower court had subsequently ordered MPL to maintain the agreement made between the two parties.

While filing the case, MPL said that Meridiam had first gone to court without discussing the issue with MPL, which is against the spirit of the agreement and, hence, MPL urges to terminate the contract.

Currently the case is in the Dispute Resolution division of the Civil Court. The trial would only begin if both parties cannot come to a conclusion.

MPL has already decided to appeal the decision of the court to maintain the agreement.

Meridiam Services is the company of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s lawmaker Riyaz Rasheed.
