Centre Enterprises is suing State Electric Company (STELCO) for over MVR 40 million over unsettled payments for a forklift acquired by the firm for STELCO.

The lawsuit was filed on January 2 by Centre Enterprises against STELCO for not paying MVR 1,292,475 owed to Centre Enterprises for bringing a six ton forklift with an additional MVR 40 million as compensation for damages.

According to the Civil Court, the issue was not resolved in the Dispute Resolution division and, hence, has now been forwarded to trial.

The issue arose when STELCO rejected the forklift brought by Centre Enterprises, saying that the acquired forklift was only 4.6 tons as opposed to the order they placed for a forklift of 6 tons.

On 2015 by request of STELCO, the Civil Court ordered Centre Enterprises to remove the forklift from STELCO’s building. However, the High Court had later reversed the decision and now the case has reached the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Centre Enterprises has also won a lawsuit against Maldives Ports Limited at the Civil Court recently. The claimant was made against MPL for not paying MVR 160 million for building a tug boat it has ordered from Centre Enterprises. MPL is currently planning to appeal the case.
