Ahmed Affan Adil, commonly known as Appi, represented Maldives in the Earth Orchestra released on Friday, featuring musicians from every single country in the world.

The ambitious idea which emerged in 2018 to record a piece of music featuring a musician from each of the 179 countries reached fruition after three years in the making, uniting the globe for the first time in recording history.

"Connecting with a musician from every single country in the world has been an incredible experience for us both", said Project Directors Emma Newman and Jude Dexter Smith.

"Music is such a potent tool of communication, and to see these people and hear the final recording with all 197 musicians on it is so powerful. We are humbled by the experience and hope that it brings joy to what has been an incredibly challenging year globally for everyone around the world".

For the Earth Orchestra project, Maldivian musician Affan's instrument of choice was the Lap-Steel Slide Guitar & the electric guitar.

According to Affan, Universal Music UK, which recorded the orchestra, gave him very clear instructions as to what they were looking for, and was very sincere throughout the whole process.

"They were very open to any and all creative ideas that I may have. This made it easier to be genuine and passionate while creating my contribution", he said.

"The concept of inclusiveness resonates throughout this whole project, where our diversities were accepted and welcomed. This allowed us to compliment each other with our individual strengths".

Stating that he was humbled by the opportunity to represent Maldives on the "epic project", Affan expressed hopes that the song inspires everyone to be more accepting towards others and appreciate the diversity in our cultural differences.

Affan started his musical journey about 20 years ago, and advanced from covering bands such as Coldplay, Nirvana, and Radiohead, to creating original songs in Dhivehi and English, with his band 1984.

Currently the performer is working in a different field while creating music at home.

"Having recorded the Earth Orchestra song at home successfully, I am feeling inspired to continue producing more music at home. Hopefully I will have more to share soon".
