Maldives Customs Service, on Friday, revealed that it had seized over 53kg of narcotics during various operations over the past two years.
According to Customs, a total of 37kg of drugs were confiscated in 2020 till November 8, through 55 individual cases. This marks the biggest year in drug busts for the institution since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was sworn in on November 17, 2018.
Customs only confiscated 20kg of illegal substances through 20 cases when compared to the same period in 2019.
It was further noted that narcotics were being imported via the postal service. In October, Customs seized a package with drugs worth MVR 1.4 million.
