President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday appointed two new High Commissioners, and a Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ibrahim Shaheeb, Shiruzimath Sameer and Aishath Shaan Shakir were accredited as the High Commissioner to Singapore, High Commissioner to Bangladesh and the Chief of Protocol respectively, at a special ceremony held at the President's Office.

Notably, Aishath Shaan Shakir is the first woman appointed to the position as Chief of Protocol at the foreign ministry. She was formerly the High Commissioner to Bangladesh, and also served as Joint Secretary at the foreign ministry, Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia, and Deputy Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

The new High Commissioner to Singapore, Ibrahim Shaheeb, was the Chief of Protocol at the foreign ministry until his latest appointment. He had formerly served as the Additional Secretary, Permanent Secretary and Director at the ministry.

Shaheeb has a Master in Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Development Studies from the Australian National University, Canberra.

The newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Shiruzimath Sameer, was formerly the Additional Secretary for East and Central Asia Division at the foreign ministry. She had also served as Minister-Counsellor at the Maldivian Embassy in Germany.

Shiruzimath has a Master of Social Science in Strategy and Diplomacy from the National University of Malaysia/Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations, Malaysia.
