The Maldives graft watchdog is probing a case of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) allegedly purchasing a damaged marine vessel for a staggering MVR 5 million.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) confirmed the investigation on Tuesday but did not reveal further details.

Mihaaru understands that the wooden boat, measuring 40 feet in length, was greatly damaged at the time of purchase and is already beached as it cannot be used.

The reason behind MPL purchasing an old worn out boat for a hefty amount remains unclear. However, sources say that MPL had bought the boat as it was beneficial to certain parties.

ACC is also looking into other cases linked to MPL.
