Maldives Immigration, on Thursday, inaugurated a strategic action plan for 2020 to 2024.

Minister of Economic Affairs Fayyaz Ismail officially launched the plan during a ceremony held at the immigration office.

Immigration stated that the plan was intended to complement the incumbent administration's Strategic Action Plan (SAP).

Immigration Controller General Mohamed Ahmed Hussain stated that the aims of the strategic plan would involve "decentralising immigration services, increasing citizen engagement, safeguarding the border, emphasizing transparency and building public trust by maintaining our core values".

According to Immigration, the four main strategic focuses of the plan consisted of the provision of people-centred services, organisational reform, border control facilitation and migration management.

In order to attain the targets outlined under the SAP, Maldives Immigration will compile a detailed five-year action plan. The implementation process will involve the following measures:

- Designation of a Chief Principal Immigration Officer to oversee progress on achieving the SAP’s objectives

- Preparation of a budget plan to finance efforts to reach strategic goals

- Establishment of a technical team to assess progress

- Continuous monitoring, evaluation and assessment concerning the SAP, including the compilation of regular progress reports

- Conduct awareness campaigns for staff concerning the strategic plan

The 2020 to 2024 strategic plan marks the first instance since 2008 that such a plan was compiled by Maldives Immigration.
