The Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions decided on Monday to dismiss Zeena Zahir from Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom).
The committee moved for her termination over allegations that members of BroadCom had played key roles in targeting and penalising certain media channels during the previous administration.
The decision to remove Zeena was approved by five of the nine committee members voting in favour.
Her dismissal would be approved later through a majority vote on the parliament floor.
She currently has five months left on her ongoing term.
In addition to Zeena, the committee had previously moved to remove other Broadcom members over the same allegations. Most of them, including the commission's former President Mohamed Shaheeb, resigned before the parliament could vote on their dismissal.
