President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom inaugurated the national Islamic television channel “Munnaaru” early Thursday, which was jointly established by Public Service Media (PSM) and Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
According to the Deputy Managing Director of PSM Mohamed Ikram, the channel will provide service five hours per day for now, but the service will broaden within a year.
“Even today we are assured of the government’s full support in all our efforts.”
During the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Ziyad Baqir declared that the TV channel will eliminate the challenges faced in providing religious information to the atolls.
Islamic Ministry and PSM signed the agreement to create the channel last month.
Currently PSM runs a religious radio channel named “Dheenuge Adu”.
